it’s time to take control

Empowering you with knowledge on your journey to a healthy pelvic floor at whatever stage of life you find yourself.

Vitaé is a self-paced online learning program for women ready to strengthen their pelvic floor, and start living their life pain free.

Welcome to Vitaé: Pelvic Floor Dysfunction & Post Natal Health

How we’re cared for and supported during our postpartum period directly affects our health and well-being for the rest of our lives. And living with pelvic pain for the remainder is unacceptable.

What if I told you it doesn’t have to be this way? We can live our best lives, pick up our child or grandchild with ease, run around after them without fear of not knowing the location nearest bathroom.

A community that supports postnatal women nurtures the health of the entire community.   By acknowledging the passage of a woman through birth to motherhood in a way that honors her lineage, culture and intentions; by saying to you— “we see you, we see this transition, and we are here for you.” I see you.

Ready for your life to change?

REAL STORIES, your stories

What would happen if we started being honest about our pelvic floor weakness?

BACK PAIN
We would talk about the frustration of back pain that never seems to go away. The ache as you’re trying to unload the dishwasher. Maybe it feels impossible to pick up your baby today.

INCONTINENCE
We would talk about running to the bathroom. Incontinence brings up many emotions. Trust me, I know. Embarrassment and a sense of shock, disbelief and anger that this is “acceptable.” Feel familiar? Maybe you’ve even been told to wear adult diapers, and feel hopeless that this is your new reality. I’ve felt all of these and more…

Not being able to join in play without fear of leakage; Fear of coughing or sneezing in public; A nagging preoccupation at the back of your mind to always know where the nearest bathroom is. This does not have to be your normal.

DIASTASIS RECTI
We would talk about how the development of diastasis recti during pregnancy, is more common than you might think. Severe diastasis can cause major health implications such as lower back pain and abdominal hernia. According to the Women’s Health Journal of Physical Therapy most cases (66 %) also presented with pelvic floor dysfunction symptoms such as urinary and fecal incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Many women don’t realize the repercussions of a diastasis because the effects are hidden and seemingly unrelated. That’s why it’s even more important to advocate for your health.

Imagine
This
  • Having the strength to pick up your baby with ease.

  • Jumping, running, playing with your family and friends without worry about leakage.

  • Dancing with your partner and not worrying about running to the bathroom.

  • Being a strong advocate for your body and having the ability to communicate your needs with confidence to your doctor or physical therapist.

Beautiful Pacific North West Forest with the dark greenery and a vibrant creek running through the middle. The sun is shining and you can feel the beauty of see the forest through the trees.

I’ve experienced the same thing.

My first child was delivered via an emergency cesarean section, two weeks overdue. I had poor postnatal care and suffered alone from postpartum anxiety and pain. When my oldest son was two years old I ‘slipped a disk’ and for the first time experienced back pain that lasted for about two weeks. I continued to have pain on and off for the next several years, and subsequently suffered another debilitating back injury. I realized I needed to help heal myself.

Pilates gave me the distance and perspective I needed to study and learn about my body separate from my pain. It changed my whole life. I became stronger and less afraid. My body returned to fitness and healthy movement and I quit my job as a lecturer and started teaching and learning Pilates. I was able to combine the knowledge that I already had of Biology with the movement and exercise in Pilates to understand what had happened to my body, why, and how to heal myself.

LET’S BREAK IT DOWN

Here's What You'll Learn

Anatomy

Get ready to learn all about the structure of your pelvic floor. It’s an elastic, adaptable structure, and plays an essential role in stability, alignment, and strength of the spine. We will deep dive into the anatomy of your pelvic floor and discuss different types of dysfunction.

*You must be 8 weeks postpartum but there is no upper age limit. These issues are treatable at any age with length of time postpartum.

Movement

Easy to follow videos will take you through a series of exercises to begin re-educating your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles to reflect the strength within you. These exercises will also help restore confidence in your movement.

Reconnection to your pelvic floor takes conscious effort. Visualization is a powerful way to connect to our bodies. It gives you a reminder of how to interact with the muscles of your pelvic floor. You’ll learn functional ways that help to strengthen and mobilize the pelvic floor, so you can live the life you desire.

Take it with you

Learning to translate your needs and speak the language of your doctor is an incredible tool to getting proper care. We’re often ignored or told we need to lose weight before being taken seriously. Being confident in what’s going on in our bodies, and knowing how to describe it, gives us the power to advocate for ourselves. It allows us to stand up, speak up, and get the medical care and attention we deserve.
