Rooted in Northern California, trusted in my community, and empowering you through movement to live the life you desire.
As an avid student of the Sciences with an M. Sc. in Evolutionary Biology from the University of British Columbia, I am fascinated with the intersection of Form and Function in the living world. The idea that form precedes function is a guide and a goal in my Pilates practice. I use my knowledge of biomechanics and kinesiology as the basis which informs my work. We will strive together to find effective movement patterns for your body and the muscle activation that promotes strength, balance, and alignment specific for you.
What is Still Point?
At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,
But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,
Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards,
Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point,
There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.
- An excerpt, Burnt Norton by T.S. Elliot
The Still Point of the Turning World describes both nature and the nature of us. It is about the smallest things and the biggest things, the ugliest things and the most beautiful things, the darkest things and the brightest things, the past and the present all existing in this one quiet point where we find “release from the inner and the outer compulsion, yet surrounded By a grace of sense.” It is finding your way through the thickest of the forest, and not giving up.
It is what I believe Pilates helped me to realize in my journey through change and chronic pain.
